Uploading multiple files

You will probably have times when you want to upload numerous files to your owner directory. The fact that JavaScript does not permit you to upload more than one file at a time is annoying. The ability to upload a .zip ¹ file is a handy way around this limitation.

When you want to upload multiple files in 1 upload transaction, you can do so by creating a .zip file (archive) that contains compressed versions of your files. Link Manager will check the validity ² of the files you've compressed, unzip them and store them in the owner directory.

After uploading the .zip file and updating Link Manager, all of the files contained in the .zip archive will be listed just as though you had uploaded each one separately.

You may want to make it possible for viewers at your site to download a .zip archive file. We think this will be pretty rare because your viewer would have to download the archive and unzip it before being able to see its contents.

We ask you to let us know whenever you want to have your viewers download the archive so that we don't unzip it.

When you select a .zip file to upload and click the "Upload" button, a small window will open to give you the option of saving the .zip archive instead of the individual files. The default is to save the individual files and that is what we recommend (leave the check box unchecked). Check the box only if you want your viewers to download and unzip the .zip file before viewing it.

Notes:
1 A .zip file (archive) is a collection of compressed files you can create using a utility such as WinZip. You can find out more about zipping and unzipping files by clicking here.

We do not have any financial or other relationship with the folks at WinZip. We just like the product!
2 We test each file for size (max is 5 meg) and type. Allowable types are: .htm, .html, .txt, .pdf, .css, .js, .zip, .gif, .xml, .wmf, .mid, .jpg, .png, .ivr, and .rm Upper or lower case is OK.
